An Open Letter to the Spiritual Leaders of America - Thursday, March 27, 2008

The purpose of Prayer Force One is to encourage and promote a national prayer meeting to be held on the Sunday before the next Presidential election. We call this National Prayer Force One Sunday. Some may be asking, "Why that day? After all, don't we already have a congressionally approved National Day of Prayer?"

The answer to the latter question is yes. I like many of you have participated in and encouraged others to take part in this great and historic prayer event. In fact, in just two short weeks, Prayer Force One is headed for Washington DC to meet with the National Prayer Committee prior to this year's National Day of Prayer. However, I contend that there is not only room for, but a genuine need for another day of prayer, one to be held every two years, just before we go to the polls to vote for our national leaders. What could be more American? What could be more right!

What many Americans have not considered is that the current National Day of Prayer is held exactly six months away from our national election day. In other words, our only current national prayer meeting is held as far away from the November general election as it could possibly be. I am sure that this was neither the motive nor the intent of Congress when it established this date in 1988, but it is true just the same. This fact alone is probably the best arguement I know for adding another day for prayer; one to be held exactly six months later, and then only every two years, just before our national elections. All ministries and organizations that currently promote the first event, could then have a second major event to promote; and God knows the more praying we do, the better.

I ask you, what better day could there possibly be then to pray on the Sunday before our next U. S. Presidential election? We make the proposal to call it National Prayer Force One Sunday. We invite churches  and prayer ministries all across America to join us in this call. I believe this is the right thing to do and the right day to do it for three reasons.

     1. As Americans, we need special wisdom from heaven before selecting our national leaders. After all, it does matter who is in office! The Bible says, "When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn." (Proverbs 29:2) Although Prayer Force One is not a political organization or movement; and although we do not endorse candidates or political parties, we do see the need for Divine guidance as we select our state and national leaders.

This is especially true when you consider that this is the first election in which there has not been an incumbent president or former vice president on the ticket of either of the two major political parties since 1952. For this reason alone, there will be a much higher degree of public awareness and interest in the 2008 election. By aligning our prayer date to coincide with this great contest, we will be able to take advantage of America's heightened consciousness. Proximity to the election does not make us political; on the contrary, it makes us spiritually wise.

     2. Americans think in terms of elections. Every four years we elect our President. Every two years we elect our next Congress. Its simply American. Therefore, it's a natural for our people to focus on that date. Although the actual date of the next presidential election is November 4th, which makes our proposed prayer date Sunday, November 2nd, we really don't have to remember all of this. By simply saying that we are going to pray on the Sunday before the next presidential election, we've said it all.

Prayer, you see, is a very abstract thing for most people. Real, yes, but abstract too. However, by focusing on a very concrete and easily remembered day, we help people to be able to identify with and participate in a very abstract idea. Wisdom is justified of her children.

     3. What better day to pray than on Sunday, when churches all across America are already meeting? Jesus said, "My house shall be called the house of prayer." (Matthew 21:12) Prayer is one of the paramount purposes of the church. We meet every Sunday for it. Therefore, nothing out of the ordinary needs to be organized. All that is left to do is to recruit participants and coordinate the unity of the event. Can you imagine such a Sunday? Would this not be pleasing to God?

Therefore, in this open letter to all who love God and country, we ask you to join us in issuing and promoting the first ever, "National Prayer Force One Sunday." If you would like to express your views or to join us in this great effort, please e-mail me at Ed@PrayerForceOne.com or visit oru web site at www.PrayerForceOne.com. May God bless each of you who have laid the spiritual revival of America to heart!

Sincerely, Ed Moore,
Former Sate Senator of Oklahoma,
