Inside the entry door to Prayer Force One, America's Flagship of Prayer, there is a red telephone. Like everything else about (and aboard) Prayer Force One, the red phone has a symbolic meaning. In this case, the red phone conveys the urgent need for every American believer to get on the hot line to heaven, especially concerning this year's election!

     Since Prayer Force One has been busy promoting a daily virtual prayer meeting in the White House, (especially on the Sunday before the presidential election, November 2nd) we thought that the red phone would be the perfect focus to call Americans to prayer. 

     What could be more spiritually appropriate than for patriotic Americans to gather in "America's Home", The White House, to pray for God to heal our hurting land? What could be more urgent than for each of us to pick up the red phone and join millions of other concerned Americans for prayer on the Sunday before Election Day?

Is There Really A Red Phone In The White House?

     But, some may ask, "Is there really a red phone in the White House?". Well, here is a little history. The concept of a hot line inside the White House was actually incorporated into White House use on June 20, 1963. It seems that the Cuban Missile Crises made it "nuclear clear" that the communication time-gap between the White House and the Kremlin, could very well have resulted in an actual nuclear exchange. To avoid future miscommunications, a primitive hookup was patched together from Washington to London, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Helsinki and finally to Moscow. Upgrades to the red phone hookup took place in 1971 and 1986, which incorporated the use of satellites.

     This White House "hot line" was popularized by the 1964 film, Fail Safe, in which the phone was referred to as "Red-1" and "Ultimate-1". The red phone has also been the focal point of two presidential elections. A 1984 Mondale commercial stated that, "The most awesome, powerful responsibility in the world lies in the hand that picks up this phone!" In this year's primary election, we're all familiar with Hillary Clinton's now famous, "Its three A.M. in The White House!" commercial, which she used effectively to underscore the inexperience of her rival, Barack Obama.

     Today however, (according to White House Communications Director, Dan Bartlett) "There is no 'red phone' in the oval office."

But There Is A Red Phone - Hot Line To Heaven!

     Someone recently saw the red phone aboard Prayer Force One, and noticing that it was not connected to anything, said: "Does that thing really work?". 

     "It does if you have faith!" I replied. In the Bible, God challenges believers to pray, saying, "Call upon me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things which thou knowest not." (Jeremiah 33:3) Our job is to call. God does the answering.

     We as believers have the most awesome and powerful responsibility in the world. We have have the ability to pick up the red phone of prayer. The phone is red because Jesus completed the connection to heaven with his own saving blood. Therefore, we are told to "Come boldly before the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find help in time of need." (Hebrews 4:16)

     Beloved, if America ever needed to obtain mercy and find help in time of need, it is now! It is especially right and urgent that we pray before the upcoming national election. God has promised that: "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sins, and heal their land." (II Chronicles 7:14)
