In today's troubling times, we encourage each believer to pray and seek the Lord as to the future of our country. We ask you to join us in prayerfully seeking God's will concerning which candidates to support and that our elected officials will look to God in how to help our troubled nation. As Christians seek to discern God's will concerning the upcoming presidential election, many have been asking us: "Is Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska a modern day version of Israel's Queen Esther? Could it be that she is the unlikely answer to the prayers of Christians all across America?" While Christians should ask such questions concerning all candidates, let's consider Sarah Palin as a case in point.

If you're not familiar with the story of Queen Esther, a modern day movie summary would read something like this. "Small town girl finds herself empowered through Divine Providence just in time to save her nation."
It is from this story that one of the most inspiring passages in the entire Bible is found. At the moment of Israel's crises, Esther's uncle asks her, "Who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?" (Esther 4:14)

Many have said that John McCain's surprise selection of Governor Sarah Palin as his running mate has many striking parallels to the Biblical account of Esther. Not only was Sarah Palin the least likely candidate among the GOP Vice-Presidential possibilities, but her selection actually changed the entire dynamic of the 2008 presidential election campaign. Palin's sudden arrival may not only result in her becoming Vice-President, but eventually even President of the United States as well!

Likewise, like Esther, the Alaska governor showed great courage as she made her national political debut. In her first national speech, Palin served notice to the liberal media as she boldly stated: "Here's a news flash for you, I'm not going to Washington to win your approval, I'm going to Washington to serve the great people of the United States!" The crowd absolutely loved it!
But, what about Palin's Christian credentials? Is she what Christians have been praying for? Many are saying that Palin clearly spoke the language of a born again Christian when she spoke to graduates of The Master's College last year in Wasilla, Alaska. On social issues it is clear that Palin is pro-life, pro-gun and pro-family. As the public is learning, Sarah Palin and her husband, Todd, decided to give birth to their fifth child earlier this year, even when it was disclosed that the child would be afflicted with Down syndrome. In affect, the Palins utterly rejected the option of abortion.

Whether Sarah Palin is a modern day version of Queen Esther, is not for us to say. While it is certainly proper to ask such questions about Sarah Palin, it is equally important to ask similar questions about every other candidate as well. The point we are trying to make is that it's the responsibility of every Chrsitian to seek God's will as we select our nation's leaders. In this regard, the first and most important thing for us to do is to pray!
This is exactly why Prayer Force One has been hosting a daily virtual prayer meeting in The White House. We invite you to join this daily prayer meeting right now.
